Strictly speaking diet is whatever you eat or drink, however, we are more accustomed to call 'diet' to weight loss diets, the type that you buy in the form of a book or a plan that you join with the objective of losing weight.
Diets should be a means to an end, a temporary step, a bridge or another tool in your arsenal that will help you get to a healthier you.
Living a healthy lifestyle is the only objective that will keep you from gaining back your weight after following a diet for some time.
Following are some simple but powerful healthy lifestyle tips:

Anything that is not raw and that you cook at home contains all kinds of added fat, chemicals, flavor enhancements, food additives, food conservatives, etc., and all those make you store more fat and prevent your digestive system from taking the nutrients you need every day.

Anything you do where you move your body burns calories, it does not necessarily have to be rigorous aerobic exercise, specially in the beginning, however, the benefits of exercising and staying active are plentiful and help your metabolism burn more calories, feel better and stay energized.

Simple sugars are refined sugars, complex are the ones contained in natural food like fruits, vegetables and wheats. Your body processes refined sugar straight into fat, regular and to your blood.

Stay hydrated evenly during the day with pure water, it has many benefits including helping to curve appetite, sodas are the worst for the same reason as processed foods, some don't have calories but contain a bunch of chemicals like phosphorus, your body doesn't know how to process them and spends great amounts of energy on them and not on the food that contains the nutrients you need, if you are hooked, try a gradual step down and replacment with flavor waters or tea until you are able to drink water only.

Same as with sugar, refined flour goes straight to fat, try wheat or whole grain products.

All the salt you need for a day is contained in one single olive, the rest is counter-productive to your weight and health.

You must give your body the macronutrients it needs every day, it needs proteins, carbs and fat, if you don't consume them every day your body sends you signals that you interpret as hunger and then you can probably end up eating what it doesn't need anyway and the vicious cycle continues.

Stress management, lack of sleep and others are mainly the culprits for not being able to follow healthy eating, deal with those, find answers, log the ones you have and confront them and beat them, it is probably the best you can do to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

You probably know it, the worst you can do against your health, don't dispear, don't quit, find the help and tools you need, beat it.
