First let's take a look at a dictionary definiton of Nutrition:

"Nutrition is interpreted as the study of the organic process by which an organism assimilates and uses food and liquids for normal functioning, growth and maintenance and to maintain the balance between health and disease. Also included is the idea of an optimal balance of nutrients and whole foods, to enable the optimal performance of the body."

In the weight loss industry nutrition can be defined as to eating a balanced portion of macronutritents, these are proteins, carbs and fats, that your body needs every day.

In addition, to achieve balance, your foods most come form all food groups, these are: Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Milk and Meats.

The amounts that you eat from every group depend or are limited to the amount of calories you need to consume every day.

Regarding the emotional eating arena, you must know that whatever emotions are triggering your eating, you develop over time a physical or physiological dependence, for 99% of the people this is not an addiciton and can be a function of habit that you can break with tools and effort, however, this 'dependency' is contributing to cravings and Nutrition helps with minimizing the cravings that come from your body, your physiological cravings.

When you give your body the right balance and amount of nutrients it needs every day, the nutrition helps it to detox your body, absorb what it needs and it stops asking for food, conversely, if you don't consume the right amount and balance of nutrients from a bad diet, no matter how many calories you give it, it will ask for food (cravings) and we make the cycle worst when feeling hunger and then feeding ourselves the worng foods, keeping the body starved of what it needs and causing cravings again.

To have an idea of what it takes to achieve a balanced nutrition we present below an example according to the US Department of Agriculture's 'Food Pyramid' for a 2000 calorie diet:
