Strip That Fat Diet

The Grates Family, Tucson, Arizona

"Dear STF Diet Team

We almost forgot to send you a note about our success we have had with your program. I say WE because our whole family has taken part in the Strip That Fat diet program. We each created our own diet plans and have stuck to our guns. Our family (2 kids, 2 parents) has lost a combined weight of over 60 pounds in just over 5 weeks. Thanks a million!"

"I have lost 60 pounds as of today. I`m on thyroid medicine, I was on prednisone which made me gain weight, but on this diet [cholesterol lowering diet] I started losing even though I was on both medications. I`m on the GI diet now. I love the food on it."

Target Heart Rate (THR)

The Target Heart Rate (THR) is a desired range of heart rate reached during aerobic exercise which enables one's heart to receive the most benefit from a workout.

Benefits of Exercising

Improving your mood, combating diseases, managing your weight, boosting your energy level, getting better sleep and improving your sex file are just some of the benefits.

Target Heart Rate (THR) or Training Heart Rate is the is the most desirable and recommended heart rate when exercising, it is the rate at which your heart and lungs receive the most benefit from a workout.

It is also important when exercising, specially if you have not exercised for a while since you must pace yourself, there is a simple, empiric way of knowing if you are pacing yourself well when exercising and a more technical calculation.

Read below a simple empiric way of knowing if you are pacing yourself correctly when exercising and/or fill in your age to find out an approximate range of the 'Target Heart Rate' for your age, just enter your age and click on the 'show my results' button.

For moderate activity you can empirically know if you are pacing yourself in a safe way using what is called as the 'conversational pace'.

During the a moderate activity like walking, try to talk while you are walking, if you can talk and walk at the same time you aren't working too hard, if you can sing and maintain your level of effort you are probably not working hard enough.

If you get out of breath quickly, you're probably working too hard — especially if you have to stop and catch your breath.

For more vigorous activites the 'conversational pace' method may not work.

There are estimated target heart rates based on your age.

In the table below look for the age category closest to yours, then read across to find your target heart rate.
